Bill Rollins says he is not an athlete, but rather a father of three who got off of the sofa a year ago and started to enjoy the thrill of racing and living a healthier lifestyle. He is doing incredibly well in that effort and has entered his first Ironman Competition. An Ironman is a triathlon that consists of a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike and a 26.2 mile run.
This is the first year there will be an Ironman Competition held in Louisville, Kentucky. The Ford Ironman Louisville, set for Saturday, August 26, 2007, will be a qualifying competition for the Ironman World Championship taking place on October 13 in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.
As part of his journey to becoming an Ironman, he is raising money and awareness for the Fisher House Foundation, a non-profit organization that helps the families of injured American military men and women. He has decided to campaign for Fisher House because he believes the help that we can provide to these injured service members and their families is the least that we can do for them. He also wants to show our troops that there is support for them back home.
Bill has paid for all of his race expenses (entry fee, travel, equipment, etc.) out of his own pocket, so all of the money he raises will be donated to Fisher House.
